Question Can a GPU die from a PC being accidentally unplugged?

I was in the middle of gaming when the extension cable power my PC (among other things) was accidentally unplugged.
GTX 1080
Asus z270e mobo

My pc is connected to a power strip with surge protection. After the power went out, I tried turning it right back on, and everything powered up save for my GPU.

I tried putting it in another PCIE slot — no dice.
Next, I “borrowed” my partners 1070ti and plugged it into the original PCIe slot, and it booted right up perfectly, leaving me to believe my 1080 is in fact dead.

Is it possible to kill a card from an accidental unplug? Is there anyway to recover the 1080?

Any help is massively appreciated.
