Can a graphics card cause a thermal event?

Hi, I am getting random shutdowns and I have reached the conclusion I have a hardware problem as the shutdown persists in BIOS mode. The PC often states on restart that there was a shutdown related to a thermal event, but my cores are cool - I have done all the monitoring required. Fans are working too.

Is it possible for a GPU chip to create a random shutdown?

Hi - Thanks Jasjar. It's running cool. I was thinking more of a fault, or a short. Masked as a shutdown? I attach a HWmonitor screenshot for your reference.
The long story is I am trying to work out which hardware element of my machine is creating a problem. I have narrowed it down to what ever continues to function in BIOS mode, as the shutdown persists even in this barebones mode.

And here is a link to the HWmonitor output file
