I was wondering if a GT 1030 will work in an HP Workstation XW4600, or if not what's the greatest GPU that will work?

Solution
It should work. It isn't a great card, but with that memory and CPU and all, you really can't expect too much as anything more will be wasted on it. The GT1030, while not great, is going to be a whole lot better than the build in FX 1700 graphics. It will be a noticeable upgrade, but you still aren't going to be able to play next gen games or anything like that.

Theoretically it should. If you have the XW4600 with the 2 core processor then it probably would be a waste, but if you the quad core then sure. I don't know what power supply that computer has, but AMD recommends a 400 watts supply when using a RX460. Now you don't have an overly powerful system, so you are probably going to be OK with the stock PSU, especially since neither the 1030 now the 460 requires external power, that means they are fairly low power consumption. The RX460 is better than the 1030 also and according to HP is compatible with that computer. But like I said, if you have the 2 core processor, than you probably won't really get much more out of it, but if you do have a quad core processor, then go ahead.
