[SOLVED] Can a GTX 1070 normally run 1440p at 144hz?

I purchased a BenQ XL2730 1440p 144hz monitor last year and never realized it came native with a refresh rate of 60hz. It wasn't until I tried to change the settings in Windows to 144hz that I realized my GPU might not be able to support it. Everytime I tried to change it to 144hz I got a black screen and a "signal not found" message, and then it would revert to previous settings. The highest I could get was 100hz stable. This is at my desktop, I figured if my monitor refresh rate is 60hz then it doesn't matter what my game settings are as it wouldn't override it.
Is this normal? Do I really need a 1080ti or higher to enjoy this monitor at it's best? Does having more than 1 monitor affect it? Specs are below.

- Gigabyte Z270-HD3
- I7-7700K @ 4.2ghz
- MSI GTX 1070 8gb
- 32gb DDR4 2400
- 2 x 27' BenQ Zowie RL2455 1080p 60hz 1ms (secondary)
- 1 x 27' BenQ Zowie XL2730 1440p 144hz 1ms (main)

Yes, it should support that frequency at that resolution. What kind of video cable are you using on that monitor? It probably needs to be either HDMI or Displayport.

This specific monitor, the 1440p is hooked up with a DisplayPort 1.2 cable that came with the monitor in the box. I've read BenQ's replies on a different thread that say the cable included with the monitor should support 1440p at 144hz.

Have you tried it without the other monitors connected?

I have, and it did not work. It won't run above 100hz. I have purchased a DP 1.4a cable that'll run 2K at 30-240hz so hopefully it is the cable and they sent me a dud. I appreciate the help. I couldn't seem to find a definite answer. Some people said a 1070 would do it fine and others said it was impossible.

It doesn't matter, AT ALL, about the card. It ONLY matters about the card in terms of performance.

Resolution is dependent on the type of connection, ie, VGA, DVI, DVI dual link, HDMI (And version), Displayport (And version) plus the cable being used.
