Hi all,

I had a nice 27" Korean monitor for 1440p with a GTX 690 card for 3 years. I moved, and my monitor didnt survive the move. I've since just upgraded to an ASUS ROG PG348Q monitor, planning on using 1440p up to 100 Hz frame rate. I want to make sure my current graphics card can handle this. I normally play MMO's like SWTOR and I'm not planning on trying out anything more graphically demanding than this. My rig make up is in the tagline below. Any suggestions? And how can a newb like me figure this out on my own?

ALSO: the monitor comes with a HDMI and displayport, yet the GTX 690 only has outputs for DVI-->so when I get an HDMI adaptor and connect it to the 690, will it still output 1440p at 100 Hz or will it dial it down? I imagine it's like anything else, that we determine our display based on connections, but if the DVI output from the card is only capable of (for example) 30 Hz, even with an HDMI adaptor that can handle 100 Hz will I still only be able to enjoy 30 Hz on my display?!

Thanks all!

If you have since upgraded to the Asus ROG, just test it. If you need a GPU upgrade then do that next. Seeing as you already bought the monitor it's too late to ask if your 690 can handle it.

Since when does the 690 ONLY have DVI? Looking online I found some that had 3 DVI ports, but they always had an mDP as well. A mDP to DP adapter should work fine.

Thanks so much everyone for your help. I feel a bit like a nub, I've always noticed the 3 DVI connections and didn't notice the small little connector which is the minidisplay port. And another nub move was not knowing to just check the specs on the GTX 690, I didn't think it would be as detailed but should've. It explicitly states atleast "3840x2160 at 30Hz or 4096x2160 at 24Hz supported over HDMI. 4096x2160 (including 3840x2160) at 60Hz supported over Displayport."

I've bought the cable, and EVENTUALLY I'll get a new graphics card. I want to squeeze maybe 6 more months out of it since I'm at the planning stage to build a little gaming rig for the kiddies--> this 690 will NOT go to waste!

Thanks again all! Much love appreciation!
