So I am looking to buy a HTC Vive MY current PC specs are
i5-6600k at 4.5 GHZ
gtx 970 at 1500MHZ
and finally 32GB's of 2500 MHz ram.

I want to know if I would be able to run everything smoothly over 90 FPS 100% of the time. I plan to play games like Onward, Hot dogs horshoes and hand grenades and DCS World.

Solution

XD

think about it...

HOW is the minimum, going to deliver "run everything smoothly over 90 FPS 100% of the time." ?

there is the answer staring at you

a gtx 970 is minimum

I would imagine something like a gtx 1060 6gb or better would be recommended

I don't have the money for a vive and 1060. What i'm asking is will it do what I asked I know it is the minimum.

Speaking the processor has a high overclock and the 970 is running over 300MHZ faster and can do 120 fps all the time in the steam vr test. I am trying to look for some one who doesn't just look at the specs and then be a dick about it.

Yes, i run a 970 and no real issues.
There was a class action lawsuit, where Nvidia had to pay $$$ to all the people who purchased a 970, cause they lied on the performance and it actually does not meet the minimum for VR.

That all said.. 970 works, and no real problems.

Thanks mine should do a bit better I have a heavy OC on it. Thanks for using action expierence.

I have a Vive and a GTX-970 and all my games seem to work fine - but the better the card the better the picture as to higher picture quality, frame rates, smoothness and letting your graphics card run cooler and for less power required. So yes, it will work (but start saving for a better card as I am). Congratulations!

I have an ASUS laptop with a 7th Generation Core i7 and a GeForce 940MX. I installed an HTC Vive. Does it work? Yes. The tracking, etc, works perfectly. Do I get jitter when I move my head? Yeah. The 940MX can't produce 90 frames per second per "eye." But, yes, IT WORKS. One problem a lot of people have with VR is, they don't blink. In "real life," people blink all the way through a head turn. They forget to do that in VR, but it's an easy habit to teach yourself. So, does the Vive work absolutely seamlessly on a 940MX? No. Does it work "okay" until I scrape up some cash for a new desktop with a better graphics card? Yeah. Especially in games where I'm not whipping my head around like a WWI fighter pilot on speed.
