Can a HP G62 Laptop with Win7 be converted to Win XP? It has ICH5 Controller Will a slipstreamed XP with SP3 added conain these sata drivers or will I need the controller files also slipstreamed onto the new disk?

All versions of XP do not contain SATA drivers. You will have to install the controller files that is if you can find them. A lot of OEM's do not provide the SATA controller drivers at all. Another option is see if you can change the SATA mode to IDE in the BIOS.
