Can a monitor not support windows 8.1 for some reason?

So I have a Philips 231E, its pretty old but still a pretty good monitor for now until I get an upgrade, and it says that it supports windows 7. The problem is that I'm not sure if it will support windows 8.1 too, or if it doesn't really matter...
This is probably a really stupid question but I have to be sure.

it should work fine

just probably show as a generic plug and play monitor in device manager rather than be named as philips 231E

I've never seen a monitor that cares what the OS is.

Usually it should work OK, altho sometimes you can drag your windows 7/xp drivers from disc/manufacturer, to fix screen flickering.
