Can a motherboard chipset affect overall gaming performance (fps)?

I was thinking of getting a i7 6700 (non-k) and a GTX 1060 3gb and a B150 motherboard from Asus.

I was wondering if its chipset and DDR3 memory will affect fps. If it does what motherboard around 100$ will work well with the processor.

is there going to be a difference, yes.. certainly... is it going to be a HUGE difference? no, not so much. Thing is, it would be wiser to go with a motherboard that utilizes the DDR4 memory b/c you can use that in a future build, where as going with DDR3 memory will limit you down the road. Additionally, the 3GB of the 1060 cheap version will potentially be limiting as well down the road.

I would not use DDR3 with skylake processors even if the mobo claims to support it. You see the memory controller is actually in the CPU and should only be used with ddr3-L (low voltage ddr3) or ddr4.

If all you want to do is game then i would suggest going with a i5 6600k as this will out perform an i7 6700 when overclocked and is far cheaper. With money saved get yourself a 212 evo cooler and a z170 mobo, any one will do. If you are unsure about over-clocking some motherboard manufacturers such as gigabyte have pre-set overclocks in BIOS and also software that will overclock for you.
