Can A Multi-Socket Motherboard Run with only One CPU?

Does it change per motherboard, if so how can you find out if it can or can not?

Also does a does A CPU limit the amount of ram you can have in a Server?

Yes, a multi-socket board works fine with only one CPU.

Usually the amount of RAM is specified by the manufacturer of the motherboard. It might be the case that you can't use all slots, since you only use 1 CPU.
