Can a sata port run a pci-e card

Hi can't find an answer to this question online everything i can find talks about adding more sata ports with a pci-e card. You can get sata to m.2 adapters and m.2 to pci-e adapters so woundered if you could use theses adapters to run a pci-e card off a sata port. Or would the motherboard not recognize the pci-e card thaks dale

You mean a card like this one ( https://www.t3corp.com/med-img-pexsat34rh.jpg ) will give you more sata ports, so you can add more storage to you pc system?

If that is the question, the short answer is yes. the long answer is that it depends.

it depends if you need more sata connectors and it depends if your motherboard supports the extra sata connectors.

Thanks for the reply. I mean can i add more pci-e slots with adapters via the 8 sata ports i have. I tryed to upload some photos but I'm not on any photo sharing site and could not work it out.

so i'l try to answer everything in short

can you add more pci-e slots with adapter? answer = yes you can.
can i add more pcie slots with an sata ports? answer = no, you cannot.

you need a pci-e slot to add more sata ports, even with adapters. but you cannot just add pci-e slots via sata ports, that is not how it works.

correct me if i am completely wrong with this.

because if you could add an pci-e slot via an sata cable, you can put an network card as example on the sata connector which doesn't make sense. the source should go to the motherboard directly and not via another way.

i'l explain.

image yourself in a car. the car is your photo data, driving to a destination. there are 2 roads. one normal road where is says motherboard and the other says storage, but storage is a road where only bikers are allowed. you take the road to the motherboard, because the other road is not meant for the car (your photo).
