Question Can a short kill a PSU

Okay so I saw a few videos on youtube of people DIYing RGB strips into their PC by using an RGB Strip and its controller and then connecting it to molex. Now I want to do that but I cannot really afford killing my PSU or anything and I wonder if I do that and somehow the strip or controller dies or even by my mistake comes to a short on that molex connector, can that kill a PSU or do any damage at all?

Technically, a short can kill any electronic component, including a PSU. However, you are more likely to destroy the LED strip before harming the PSU given how most modern PSUs are designed.
