[SOLVED] Can a virus leak without scanning

Hello,my friend give me one external disk and me plug in this in my computer ( Dont scan yet ).Im use Avast free.If this external disk have a any malware can infected my computer?I'm talking about scanning before.Can malicious files leak into my computer before I scan, or can Avast block it?Thanks for answers so much.

if your are using a good anti-malware software that is setup correctly, it should block any malicious content and quarantine the files automatically.

to be sure nothing malicious is on the disk, just format\wipe the entire thing before use.
