Hi, ever since I got the N600 Wifi Cable Modem Router my ping has been spiking lately on wireless gaming. My ISP is TimeWarnerCable with an internet plan of 50Mbps download and 10Mbps upload. I have a Hp Pavilion Touchsmart 15 sleekbook with a qualcomm atheros AR9485 802.11b/g/n wifi adapter built in and a ps3 I use to play games. I mainly play CSGO and Garry's mod on my laptop but on my ps3 I play Battlefield, Cod, Destiny, etc. My ping, according to csgo, goes from a steady 25-30 to 70-90 then back down in a second and is quite annoying when I'm playing competitively. This happens on all games on both platforms. I have tried to move my ps3 and laptop right next to my cable modem but doing so did nothing to help the ping even when my laptop/ps3 were no farther than 5ft from it and in the same room. I have given up trying to fix my ping wirelessly so I'm planning on switching to wired cable but since my cable modem is about 30ft away from my ps3/laptop and in different rooms I don't want to use that long of a cable and moving the ps3/laptop next to the router is inconvenient. I have connected my laptop via ethernet cable before and it has achieved a steady ping on CSGO. Therefore I'm wondering if I get a wifi extender with an ethernet port can I use that to connect my laptop or ps3 while gaming to stabilize my ping and if so can anybody recommend me a wifi extender that is compatible with my cable modem?

Can you move your modem and router closer to your PS3 and laptop. You probably have a cable line from Time Warner hooked to the same TV as your PS3. Just get a cheap cable splitter like this.

That way you can split the line between your cable box and your cable modem and keep the modem and router in your TV entertainment center. Then it would be easy to run a hard wire to the PS3 and hopefully the laptop.

Other devices that are currently hard wired might have to be switched to WiFi if you move the modem/router but most things aren't as sensitive to a slightly higher ping as gaming.
First, try to see whether being WiFi connected is your ping problem. Get a long 30ft Ethernet cable, connect your computer directrly to the router, and see how is your ping.

But I doubt An WiFi extender will solve your problems - it will use same WiFi you are using. It might help only if you position the extender as close as possible to the router, using long Ethernet cable between your computer and the extender.
