I want to build a new pc and bring over my drives from the older pc which is oem installed. I'd hope all I need to do for that is install a new key on the new pc and I'm golden [I hope] but since the key is bound to the old mother board can I just take from an older pc it's drives, install/update old Os and use the binded Oem key.

The oldest pc uses Vista and it's been fast to slow down and the time has come to burn it off the face of my desk. I want to leap frog like a pair of old shoes to a younger sibling.

Thanks for any help

Seems to be legal a minefield regarding OEM licence transfer -- I've yet to see a definitive answer.
What will work in practice and what is actually legal is a hot topic that's been raised on THF several times in the past.
But the overriding policy here at THF is that whatever you do it must be legal.

I'll have to let ya know. I'm just hoping when I install the disks in the new pc it will yell and I put the new key in and do a flat install with the already used keys motherboard to a transfer from the vista PC

Like your post links say, if it doesn't go completely as planned I can call Microsoft and see what they feel like doing. Hopefully on the new pc key transfer they won't make me do a full reinstall.
