Can an external SSD be used as an internal SSD?

I have bought an 850 pro 120GB SSD with a SATA-USB3 cable to be used as an external backup. Can I put the SSD in my PC and use it as a storage drive or do I have to keep it external?

You can and you should use SSD in your computer. Ideally SSD is best as boot drive. SSD as an external drive is waste of money since you are not taking the advantages of the features it gives. Anyway that is my opinion.
