My 8 yr. old HTPC just packed it in. I have a i5 4690 lying around and would like to know if its onboard graphics could run a W10 system using Kodi? I currently only use it to play 1080p videos (no 4K) 5.1 sound from my networked HDD.

If the Intel won't cut it i think I'll just get a Ryzen 5 2200G.

Solution

Just tried playing some 4k HEVC trailers on my i5-3470 and I only get 30-35% CPU load using DX9 output (basically forces software decode for everything but final output scaling and color space conversion which the i5-4690's IGP can handle) in VLC 3.0.6, should be perfectly fine even for 4k30, may be a bit tight for 4k60.
Great, thanks guys :)

I found the best option on my previous rig for my sound setup was to use digital audio out and feed that to my receiver. Does anyone know what boards have digital audio out that work with the i5?

Solution
Thanks again for all the help :)

I managed to dodge a bullet and I don't have to replace the motherboard/cpu from my HTPC after all with the i5 chip I mentioned in my first post. The issue was when I was trying to boot, it showed the initial BIOS splash screen and then after about 5 seconds it would re-boot. I was unable to enter the bios and make any changes, it just continued in an endless boot-loop. After interrupting this initial boot process several times with the PSU power switch, it finally showed a screen saying the bios was corrupt, and it started to auto load a backup bios. After that I was able to get the system up and running again! I really though the system was shot, but got lucky and I managed to salvage it.
