Can an IPS be as good as PLS panel?

I apologize for the long question beforehand. Ive been using an AOC E2270SW monitor at work ever since i started programming. A few days ago i started using a Samsung S24D390 monitor, and I completely fell in love with it. Ive never seen something like it, not in other monitors, nor in TVs. The color reproduction is absolutely stunning. Doing a bit of research I found out it is using a PLS panel, which i have never heard before. I am currently using a cheap 720p chinese TV as a display at home, and that made me realize how dull it looks in comparison, So I am now searching for a monitor that looks even 70% as good as the samsung one!

My options are, a Samsung S24F350, a Dell SE2717HR, or an AOC M2870V.(same price for any of those three).

So here's my question. can an IPS panel match the quality of a PLS? I dont care too much about the size, but more about the image quality. which of those would be best? Thanks in advance!

Ips, pls and ahva are grouped together as ips because of the similarities. Companies just use different names for rights and marketing purposes. But there are so many variations of panel techs along with quality differences, you should be less concerned of panel type and compare the specific monitor models.

Those are rather average panels as far as quality goes but there are no pro reviews to have an actual in depth comparison, other than the dell se2717h which should be the same panel as the se2717hr. With contrast being 900:1 I wouldn't choose that. It states 1000:1 as all monitors do and specs are usually fake. The samsung may say the same 1000:1 but no review means it could be anything. I'd say go with the aoc since it should get better contrast and is one of the main reasons you like that s24d390. There is a review that's not pro level but they did seem to test it with 3000:1. If you have other choices, you may want to look at samsung va monitors. They've had quite a few good ones in the past years.

Size will affect quality because of pixel size. This will also make sitting distance matter. The farther you sit away, the larger and lower res you can use. With a normal 2 foot or so viewing distance, I don't recommend above 24" for 1080p.

i would have never imagined those were average quality monitors. the s24 looks really amazing to me.
Should I search for VA panels then? unfortunately I dont really know which monitors are high quality and which are not.
would you mind taking a look at these stores? http://extremetechcr.com/tienda/27-monitores and http://www.intelec.co.cr/index.php?route=product/category&path=788_404_930
if theres a model you would recommend from those two please let me know!

S24D390 and S24F350 are both S24 so I don't know which one you referred to. Not that it matters. Anyways, I don't know your usage, what specs you want, and only have an idea of budget ~160k based on what I saw on the site and the models you were already looking at. That's not the high quality range. If I were buying a monitor today, I would get va. A lot of those are less popular models and I can't find reviews. I couldn't suggest you any model that I don't have real specs for.

My usage will be really gaming and programming, nothing more. Im also searching for a 24 inch or bigger screen, it really helps with programming. I could consider Amazon too, so that I have more options! a friend is going to help me with the shipping and all the buying process. Budget wise, $500 is my absolute limit, including shipping. I wouldnt spend any more than that. I hope that info helps!
edit: I own an amd gpu, so even though its not my main concern, freesync would be a nice bonus to have.
