Question can an m.2 2280 fit in a m.2 22110 slot?

Can I put an m.2 2280 in a m.2 22110 slot and have it work? The motherboard I have is a Gigabyte Aorus Z390 Pro Wifi. It comes with 1 2280 slot and 1 22110 slot. I have already used the 2280 slot and want to put another 2280 sized m.2 into the other 22110 sized slot. Is that possible?

Technically speaking - as long as as it's the same SATA interface it will technically work.

The 2280 and 22110 refer to the sizes of the stick - you just need a standoff in the right location to keep the M2 level.
  • 2280 means 22mm x 80mm long
  • 22110 means 22 x 110mm long
So in your case, yes you should be fine, as based on the comment above, I'd assume there is a stand-off for a 2280 on the 22110 slot.

The "standoff" would just be the screw at the end of stick to help secure it? This particular motherboard has a heat shield for each length of M.2 slot where the screw is at the end and secures both the heat shield and the stick at the same time.

Going off Dark Lords comment:

1 x M.2 connector (Socket 3, M key, type 2242/2260/2280/22110

This is suggesting the slot with the 22110 size will also suit the 2280 size.

And yes the standoff is the slightly elevated stand that you screw the other end of the m2 to to keep it level with the slot.

Usually most motherboards come with individual standoffs too.
