hi, I have an old 650 watt thermaltake psu (Thermaltake Toughpower 650watt ATX 12v 2.2 - PSH 650V)
with the spec :

+3.3V 30A
+12v1 18A
+12v2 18A
+12v3 18A
+12v4 18A
-12v 0.8A

Can the psu handle a gtx 980Ti?

I have i7 950
16GB Ram
2 hdd @ 1TB
2 Optical drive
and 3 12cm Fan

Your CPU and GPU are really sucking power, but I think it should be no problem.

However, if you feel like your PSU is really old, it won't harm to upgrade it.

Beside, an important thing to notice is that your CPU probably wouldn't be able to handle a 980ti. It probably would bottleneck it. If you have not purchased the GTX 980ti I would consider upgrading your CPU too or buy another graphics card.

I have a 7 year old 550 watt Tt 'Key 3 Spirit' PSU not even 80 certified and its powered my old E 1331G-03 and every change therein (8800GT, GTS 250 OC, R9 270x). It's flawless.
It couldn't power a new PC past an old AM2 board but for its longevity I say Winner

Just consider its rating and if you are not completely confident in the PSU to power your machine, then you can pick a decent one up for 100 or less USD and be perfectly fine. It shouldn't harm the parts that you currently have, but it is also worth considering that the PSU could go out. I had mine go out on an old machine and it took all the other parts down with it haha. You really shouldn't have this problem, but it might be worth the upgrade for such a low cost and saving your parts the possibility of being ruined.
