Question Can an old USB cable work with a new laser printer?

Can I use an older USB printer cable on my new printer? They're both HP laser printer USB cables. The new printer's cable is far too short, but I have a nice long one from the older printer I'm replacing. Can I safely use it with my new printer? Thanks.

The old cable may not support the highest speed transfers. If the new printer is USB3, the long cable may only allow USB2 speeds for example.
