Question Can an outdated driver cause 100% Disc Usage?

My MSI Gaming Laptop which has Windows 10 has an issue where the disc usage will max out even though basic tasks like chrome are running with .1 or .2 MB/s.
I have tried scanning for malware, checking for updates, safe reboot and performing the "chkdsc.exe /r" task as an admin. Nothing was working. Then I scanned for outdated drivers and found that I have a few, as I turned off automatic updates. While I intend to fix these drivers soon, I was wondering if it is likely that this will fix my issue or if anyone else had this problem and found a solution.

Not very likely.

Upgrade to SSD will most likely fix your disk usage issues.

run Resource Monitor and see what's eating Gilbert Grape, er your cpu

Open task manager and click the processes tab, then click disk to sort by highest disk utilization.
