[SOLVED] Can an overpowered PSU make up for poor quality?

Lately me and my friends were giving a guy build tips. The guy had a 650 80+ Bronze Psu in his build, with a brand that nobody ever heard of.(No reviews, nothing shows up on google) My friend said to me that "a 2060 only needs 500W, so the sketchy PSU brand shouldn't make a problem, it's 650W anyways." Can that be said?

No. Indeed, it might make things worse.
Your friend is a prime example of why, in that he thinks this is a good thing.

Go for quality, more watts doesn't mean anything, there is way more to a PSU than just watts.

There is something to be said for taking a look at the rated output on the rails as opposed to its marketing rating. There is some value to be had by purchasing budget units slightly higher rated than your wattage need. I still tend to stick with name brands of familiarity.

80+ Bronze is not that hard to meet. What matters is how reliably power is delivered, especially under load, and you'd be surprised how many GPUs do badly at this.
