Can any graphics card work with server 2016?

This is kinda of a multi question. As stated above.

1) Can any graphics card worth with server 2016?
(Reason for this question. Have a spare PC that had windows on. I thought I would upgrade my main PC graphics card sometime next year. And take old and put it in spare PC. So when i put Windows server 2016 on it)

2) Will any graphics card work with any server motherboard?


What's your guys and girls thoughts?

If your server has a motherboard that has a pci slot, yes any video card with pci conector works.

Does the server need a graphics card though?
It may have integrated graphics of some kind, good enough to run basic windows. Any GPU you put into it's PCIE slot (which isn't the same as a PCI slot, which a server may have for things like adding network cards) will "work" with the windows basic graphics drivers, but not for any type of 3d work without the proper drivers.

simple answer. check hardware compatibility list for the OS. drivers have changed: i recently installed Win10 on a dell d510 - everything worked but sound. i then found out it worked in win8 but was left out of win10 and i had 0, zero, chance of getting sound (so i installed freeBSD, then put it on the shelf).

Sorry for the very very late response. Does the server necessarily need a graphics card short answer no. But if running multiple VM's and computers are connecting to these multiple VM's through remote desk or PXE. By having a graphics card in the server. The vm can use that graphics card for video and it will take the stress of the CPU little because of video rending.
