Can anyone explain Xbox : Smart Delivery to me?

So, the Diablo 4 physical copy says "smart delivery" I have a Series S, but soon an X....and I like physical media. That said can I buy the physical copy and have it on my series S? If so how?

your progress and i am assuming dlc will remain with the move so you don't lose any of it from upgrading your console. i doubt you'll get another physical copy but rather you'd get a digital copy for the X console.
