[SOLVED] Can anyone help me with some Upgrading/Build Advice? Planning on to reuse old parts

Hi there, I've just found out that my motherboard had died and I've been looking around to see if I could build a new setup reusing my old parts of my PC. I am no means a computer expert or a tech fanatic so please could you advise me create a PC that could run decently?

The programs I mostly use are architectural visualization softwares such as AutoCad, sketchup, Revit, a lot of photoshop and other editing softwares. (I rarely ever game)

CPU: i7- 4790k
PSU: EVGA 650 W 80+ Gold
GPU: EVGA Geforce GTX 970 4GB
MOBO: ASROCK z97 anniversary (DIED)
RAM: Corsair DDR3 2x4GB
CPU Cooler: Regular intel airfan cooler?

I guess I'm trying to make the pc work on the minumum? My budget is around £300 -400 range but I can look to see to increase my budget if there is a need. I have looked around at trying to repalce my motherboard but quite frankly the LGA1150 is so out of date I can't find a decent seller in my area and most of those motherboards have been used and I'm mostly scared that I might be conned if I should do so buy an used motherboard.

not bad choices and some solid parts to reuse. ryzen likes fast ram. just to show to other options i went with the same mobo, 3600 speed ram and a 3600 instead of the 2600. it adds about 100 pounds but sits inside your stated budget

you'll be happy with either cpu for sure, but you'll be that little bit happier with a 3600 and some faster ram

Your i7-4790K has 8 threads and a passmark performance rating of 8053.
That is when all 8 threads are fully utilized.
The single thread rating is 2467. Single thread performance is arguably more important because few apps are so well multithreaded that they can effectively fill all threads.

The ryzen 2600 is an upgrade for multithreaded apps with a rating of 13215, but a bit of a step back with a single thread rating of 2260.
I am not so hot to buy 2nd gen products when3/4th gen is available.
The r5-3600 is stronger with the same 12 threads but a rating of17867/2585.

If you are more comfortable with intel, the I5-10400 is competitive with 12 threads and a rating of 12526/2598.
As a plus, intel does not depend on fast ram, 2666 speed is fine.

Your psu is fine, the power needed is primarily gated by the graphics card, and that will not change.

The options above all come with a satisfactory stock cooler.

Thanks for the advice! however, I'm worried in so many years time that Intel has again changed their socket, so I wondering if Ryzen would be the best choice since I suspect a majority of their CPU's are still on the AM4 Socket?

(ofc I won't be upgrading any time soon untill the next component dies, but I don't want to come back in 7 years time only to find out that my socket is out of date (similar to this scenario with my i7 (LGA1150))
