Can anyone just spy on my conversations?

I have a friend who claims that her friends able to just spy on other peoples conversations. I have no idea what type of app she claims to use or anything. But like. shes 14 or something and not exactly the brightest with computers. And myself, I dont know anYTHING about hacking and spyware and stuff. But can you just download any ol app and use it to just spy on peoples conversations on any platform? sorry if i sound a little paranoid lool

No, unless you have spyware on your computer because you downloaded a dodgy file, nobody can see what you're doing.
No app will allow you to 'hack' anyone, you first need their IP address for a start, and I doubt her friend knows how to set up a linux virtual machine to even LEARN how hacking works through any network penetration programs.....
Just kids saying stupid stuff, the whole NSA scandal made people paranoid about everything privacy related in the US, smh. 🙁
