So I have had my Gaming PC for a while now and not really upgrading apart from my graphics card and even that was a long time ago, my CPU is very old and doesn’t perform that well in newer/recent games and I think it’s time to do an upgrade.

I am aware that my Mobo will need to be upgraded, and my RAM will need to be upgraded as it’s not very good. So most of it will need to be upgraded and renewed.

I really am just looking for better more up to date specs to run newer/upcoming and recent games that are out without having low/choppy FPS, stutters etc. as been having a lot of problems with my CPU and maxing out causing stutters.

I was looking at getting a Ryzen cpu a while ago, but not sure on that anymore. If someone can recommend a build then all suggestions are open, budget would probably be £1000 maybe more, I can reuse whatever can be reused in my current build, or sell whatever I don’t. As I am fully aware that my mobo, CPU and RAM, will need to be renewed, aswell as potentially a new/bigger case for potential water cooling?

Just as an additional question, you plan on continuing gaming in 1080p 60hz correct? not changing the monitor anytime soon?

What games do you usually play? Cuz an i5-6500 even though its old, should be able to give you 45ish FPS in modern games. The question comes down to what game graphics settings you are using for your 1070.

Wait for 4060 or 4070 like why_me suggested.

Can you tell us which cooler you have? the stock intel cooler? u might be able to order AM5 mounting bracket if you got a decent cooler.

I am able to go a bit more on the CPU side, and I am looking to have wireless for my wireless card on the motherboard, and quite a few USB ports as I do use a few, also for future upgrade ability for more SSDs and storage, so NVMEs, not sure on the RAM, I think 3600 ram is probably best option for now rather than the more newer 4000 ram?

would you be able to suggest me a system with liquid cooling? And is the i5-12000 and 13000 cpus good? Because I have an i5 right now would it not be best to upgrade up to an i7 intel? I do play quite a few demanding games, such as DayZ, and as of recently Elden Ring.

I also run a dual monitor system, 60hz 1080p and would want to go up to 144hz or higher and potentially 1440p? So I need my system to be able to run that, I am only looking to upgrade one of my monitors the one I use for gaming or is it not recommended to have 2 different monitors with different hz?

also looking at 27” VA rather than IPS, and the other specs for FPS gaming to get the better quality speed times advantage, also to be able to tilt and rotate the screen and lift up and down potentially? Not bothered about speakers or usb ports on the monitor, I am interested in the gaming settings such as crosshairs to enable on the monitor settings which I can’t do on mine right now. Thankyou.

the 32GB ram I am wanting too, so really it’s just the motherboard, RAM, CPU cooler and a decent CPU to go with my 1070 which I’ll be looking to upgrade eventually

Most any 13th gen processor will be a massive upgrade.
Even the I3-13100 would be about double the capability of your I5-6500.
There is a continuous range of increasing cpu capability and prices.
I3/I5/I7/I9 no longer designate the number of cores and the presence of hyperthreading.
It is now more of an overall capability designation.
I might think that a I5-13600K would be a good upgrade.
You will need a cpu cooler that is lga1700 capable.
Noctua maintains a list of suitable coolers for the 13600K:
https://ncc.noctua.at/cpus/model/Intel-Core-i5-13600K-1638
Liquid cooling is only good if you will be highly overclocking and need a 360 or 480 sized aio.
What is the make/model of your case?
Do you like it?
It may be suitable to be reused.
What is the make/model of your psu?
I expect that unless it is of top quality and quite strong, you will want to invest in something much stronger to support a strong graphics card.

Plan on buying a larger higher 4k resolution monitor which can be very
immersive for gaming. You can always reduce the resolution.
Think about 40" A great monitor is a long term investment.
Bust your budget for a good one.
Do plan on keeping an old monitor as a side monitor for email, performance monitors and such.

You can use most any lga1700 based motherboard, but I would avoid the budget units.
B660/B760 or Z690/Z790 would be good.
You can reuse your DDR4 ram. You might want to see how you do.
No game by itself needs more than 16gb.
If you will be multitasking while gaming, that is when you want 32gb.
Intel is not dependent on fast ram for performance.
Real app performance between DDR4 and DDR5 is similar.
But, DDR4 ram and components are cheaper.

Ryzen is a different animal; It is very dependent on ram for performance.
There is definitely a learning curve.
I see many ram related posts with ryzen. I would stick with Intel.

2x16GB of DDR4 3600 will be more than fine.

TBH an AIO for that cpu is way over the top. The 12400 / 12400F runs cool. A simple 120mm single tower air cooler will do just fine.
