hi i have Crucial Ballistix Sport 4GB Single DDR4 (bls4g4d240fsb) and want to buy
Crucial Ballistix Sport 4GB Single DDR4 (bls4g4d240fsa) both model have same spec only the model no is different can we use them in dual channel

Solution

The principal difference between the two modules is that there has been a slight revision to the design of the module.

The modules might work together in dual channel mode, but this is dependent on the characteristics of the two modules being similar. It might require trying several modules until an inter-module compatible combination is found.

For two (or more) memory modules to work together, their respective characteristics (apart from voltage, frequency, and timings) have to be similar.

The designation such as 512M x 64 actually means the (equivalent) number of memory locations per memory chip per single rank at memory data width of 64 bits. The "512M" part does not mean 512 MB capacity.

Assuming the two modules are otherwise compatible with each other, then it is possible to get 12 GB.

However, and assuming 8 GB module is in one channel and the 4 GB module is in the other channel, this combination is not really recommended as the channels are uneven (or out of balance) due to different module capacities in each channel. This means that maximum memory bandwidth is not possible.

Partly true.

Again assuming that the two modules are compatible with each other, the 4 GB module will run in dual channel mode with 4 GB from the 8 GB module. The remaining 4 GB from the 8 GB module will run in single channel mode.

Ideal solution is to use a dual channel kit where the two modules have been tested and are guaranteed to be compatible with each other. Also maximum memory bandwidth will become available when using the modules from the dual channel kit because the two modules will have the same capacity.

So either a 2 x 4 GB kit, or a 2 x 8 GB kit is suggested.
