Can ASUS M5A97 R2.0 Use 16 GB SIMMS?

According to the ASUS M5A97 R2.0 Users Guide page 1-9 Reads: "The Maximum 64GB memory capacity can be supported with 8GB or above DIMMs. ASUS will update the memory QVL once the DIMMs are available in the market".

. Now that 16GB DIMMS are available wondering if you or anyone has tried them in this mobo?? Any word from ASUS? We have maxed out the boards -- right now -- at 32GB. The machines are both used as Workstations

Best bet is to contact ASUS as the QVL does not list any 64GB kits at 16x4 only 8x8 so that's no good. You'll be lucky to find anyone who has tried or needs 64GB DDR3 and I don't think they are manufactured.?
I only find DIMMs in 64GB 16x4 in DDR4 and they won't fit your MB.

You should be able to negotiate a return if they don't work.

The M5A88M listed as only supporting 16GB RAM and I don't know if Asus ever updated the QVL to show support for 32GB RAM as that board is no longer mfg'd however, I have been running 32GB RAM on it for a few years now and suspect that if Auss mentions "updating the QVL when DIMMS are available" for 64GB for the M5A97, then it already supports it but the trick is to find compatible. I couldn't run 2x16 in the M5A88M but the retailer refunded me upon return of the 2x16. I've been running G.Skill 4x8 Ripjaws Series X in it without any issues mostly except a few months ago I had to set the BIOS back to factory RAM speed setting, instead of the XMP 1600 (it has been running fine at 1333 ever since, it ran a few months at XMP1600 but when I got a ram error that one day I decided to roll it back). Granted, testing 64GB can get expensive.
