Last night I tried to fix a broken gtx 980ti MSI which had a short on a mosfet. I put it in my ASRock x370 killer sli with Corsair RM 1000 psu. As soon as I pressed the power button, the GPU fans and light turned on, which it didn't prior. Then, there was fire at 24 pin socket of my mobo. I unplugged as soon as I saw the fire. I disassembled the whole system. Externally, only Mobo pcb had been burnt. The rest of my components doesn't even have a scratch. Now, I'm worried and confused if my psu, Mobo or the GPU was the problem. There was no burning smell from the psu btw.
