Can bent CPU socket pins ruin your CPU?

Good day, so I recently bought a used motherboard. I got it pretty cheap, so the bent cpu socket pins weren't much of a surprise really. However, after contacting the seller he claimed that the board still worked fine with the exception of 2 ram slots. As far as I can see, there's about 3 or 4 pins bent, and possibly one missing. I've also heard from my friend that not all cpu socket pins are in use and just there to fill up space or something, or perhaps has some function most people rarely utilize. I'm thinking of trying to bend the pins back, but in fear of perhaps making it worse than it already is I'd like to test and see how the board works now without doing anything.
Can testing a cpu in a socket with bent pins possibly ruin my cpu?¨

The Bent pins do affect the memory slots like you said above because that can cause issue with the Memory Controller , rendering some of the slots useless. Depends on the damage.

I would too, however, I'd like to test it still. Will testing my cpu in a ruined socket like that possibly destroy my processor?

Some look fixable but you can't predict the results.

He must have really botched the install at some point.

To unbend mine, it took a bright desklamp, a flat steady surface, and a large, stout, knitting needle.
And a steady hand.

Just with all the parts, and see if it works.
