Can CD copies of games be saved onto a Hardrive/SSD?

Assuming I were to buy the CD version of a game, could the file be saved onto some storage device so I won't have to keep inserting discs?

The reason why I'm asking is because Amazon has games for insanely cheap prices in comparison to Steam, but I don't want the hassle of using an external disk reader.
(and yes I know this is probably a very silly question, but I'm a newbie)

Sure thing mate you gonna need 2 things:
-An Optical Disc Drive
-A Software called CloneCD

You just have to insert the disc, start CloneCD and you can create an image file. That will technically create a virtual copy of your CD, DVD, DualLayer DVD (Guess blu-ray is not supported yet). Once the image file (.iso) is ready you can freely move that on your HDD and store it.

Later on if you want to open it you can use DaemonTools for example, that will emulate a virtual disc drive on your system and that will act as a DVD player for your .iso files. Then you will see your CD/DVD under "My Computer" just like a regular disc.
You could also create an image file of the CD/DVD and install a virtual cd drive and insert those images to the virtual drive. To Windows (or other OS), these virtual cd and drives would look like real cds and would work like them. Some games could have a DRM and may not work.
