Can connecting hard drive or RAM from dead PC kill a new one?

I have a dead desktop PC that gets stuck on the startup and can't get past it. I have no clue what caused it. I would love to take the hard drive and RAM out of it and make use of them in my new desktop as extra hardware, but I'm afraid that doing so may damage it somehow. Is this possible?

Solution
what stage of start up does it get stuck at?

If PC won't even start the problem might be the ram, but if it gets to trying to load windows and won't, the ram is probably okay.
hdd shouldn't kill a new PC. That doesn't mean it will work but I have yet to see a hdd kill other parts of a PC

So are you saying that if the RAM is bad it could damage the new PC? The old PC gets stuck right on the HP logo, which is the first thing to pop up when it is started. The spinning dots below the logo just freeze and it never gets past this. I have been told that the RAM could be the issue, but after trying to replace it with new RAM, the problem was never fixed. I'm worried that the RAM may have been just one of the issues. So to clarify, if the RAM is bad can it damage the new PC?

And as for the hard drive, I went ahead and installed it in the new PC. Everything is working great there! I appreciate the information! Thank you!
