Can display port run in 1080p?

Well so im thinking of getting a new monitor its a 144hz 1080p and it has a display port, dvi and hdmi, the problem is my gpu has 3 display ports and 1 hdmi, so could i connect a display port into a 1080p monitor? Would it work fine?

I have a 980 Ti with 3 DVI and 1 HDMI and when i use just 1 monitor i use HDMI with no problem

for 144hz 1080p you are limited to dp or dvi dual link, so with your gpu you must use dp. since it ca do 4k , there isnt a chance to run into problem with 1080p. since most 144hz monitors usually offer a dvi dual link cable , you most probably need to buy a dp cable
