Hello! could a faulty main power supply wire, you know the one that goes from the back of the computer to the power socket cause crashing? Like a black screen then reboot? I am asking this as for the past couple of months i have been having problems with my computer going black then rebooting, yesterday there was a split in the wire that started smoking, so i unplugged it and got it outside. The question i am asking is could the inside of the wire be the cause of the crash the whole time? or is it just a coincidence that it broke yesterday? if this could cause crashing ill just buy a new power supply, but if that is not the case then i will have to do more research in to the crash to find out the what is causing the problem

Thanks in advance!

Solution

Absolutely.
That split in the wire did not happen all of a sudden. Likely it has been 'bad' for sometime, and you get a momentary loss of power.

Replace the cable. Do not plug anything in until you have a new one.
