Can Galaxians be modified to Pacman

I believe that Galaxians and Pacman share the same hardware....

so does this mean that simply changing the roms will change Galaxians to
Pacman?

I currently have a spare Galaxian board and wondering if that would be an
option.

Is it really that simple?

Now that, I'd be totally a fan of Scott. I swap galaxian into my pacman
cab and have to use a home made adapter card in order to play galaxian
in a pac cab. I'd love the multi kit to play galaxian.

There are some booleg pacs that run on galaixan hardware but it's not a
simple swap and some aspects of the game like sound and color are
different in the bootleg versions.

They are VERY different hardware. The pinouts are close, and there
are bootleg boards that play Pac-man upside down with poor colors and
sound out there, but the pinouts are a bit different than Galaxian
also.

The simplest way to convert a Galaxian PCB to Pac-Man, is to sell your
Galaxian PCB on eBay, and then add some cash from your pocket and buy a
Pac-Man PCB from someone in the group. 😉

The biggest hurdle is that Pac hardware can't handle the graphic
demands of Galaxian, and hacking a Galaxian board to play Pac results
in an ugly version (like the Atari 2600, but worse).

In a word, no.
At least, not in my experience.

What *is* possible, sort of, is to directly swap the entire motherboards.
The pin locations between _Galaxian_ and _Pac Man_ are close, but not
totally exact. For example, if you plug a _Galaxian_ motherboard into a
_Pac_, it will power up and you will see normal video on the screen, and you
might be able to play it reasonably well, but you won't hear any sound.

As for the motherboards themselves, they are totally different from each
other. They use the same microprocessor, but everything else is different.
Perhaps someone out there has written _Pac_ ROMs for a _Galaxian_ hardware
base, but I've never bothered to look.

There is a hack to run Pac on Galaxian hardware, but it's ass. You can read all
you ever wanted to know about it on Kev's excellent Pac page -

Galaxian hardware"

No, their hardware may be similar in areas, but it's
not identical. However, having said that, there are
a set of PROMs floating around that will convert a
Galaxian into a Pac-Man, but the colors will be off
due to hardware differences. Again, however, someone
here in RGVAC made some "corrected color" PROMs about
a year or two ago that looked pretty close to the
Pac-Man colors. I don't know if those are still
available, or ever where, but it can be done.

Personally, I'd like to see the Galaxian games ported
over to a Pac-Man PCB, so they could be included in
a Multi-Pac kit. :)

Ummm, not really. Pac in a Galaxian will take a total mod of the CP.
Galaxian uses a two-way joystick and Pac was an eight-way (I believe).
