Hi everyone,
I am planning to upgrade my gpu from gtx 970 to rtx 2060 or rtx 2070. But I am not sure if it will work with my board (Gigabyte H81M-S1 (rev2.0) ) because it has pciex16 2.xxx lane. For now I don't have the budget to upgrade for a newer motherboard with newer processor and ram. So I have planned to upgrade things step by step. And if these newer gpus won't work with my board then could a little older gpu like gtx 1070 would work ?
My processor is i5 4440 ( will bottleneck newer gpu but its ok)
Ram 16gb 1600mhz

It should work with your MB. PCIe is backwards compatible.
.....and yes it will bottleneck.....as long as you understand that....but that's OK until you get a new CPU.

....and make sure your PSU is enough for the new GPU and has the right plug(s).
Thanks for the quick reply. :D
My PSU is corsair VS550 it is a 550 w psu with 2×(6+2)pcie pin. I hope it would work with newer cards. After some research I am planning to get a rx vega 56 8gb

Do I need to update my bios to get newer card working or it would work without any problems?
I want to be sure that the new gpu will work with my MB as the seller will only accept replacement won't accept a return.
