Can Hdd speeds can be controlled ? ?

can we decrease the speed of our hdd drives like for very less writing task
actually i keep my hdd's working all night. only for downloading purposes, which require very less hdd power

NO, I only worried about my hdd life and power consuption if kept on overnight

Most hard drives are single speed.
However if you change your power settings to turn the HD off after 5-10 minutes of inactivity, your drive will spend most of its time not spinning. I did this with all of my rotating drives they only spin up when I decide to access my archives.
