Can HDMI connect a blu-ray player to my laptop?

Hi - I'd like to watch Blu-ray movies using my Blu-ray player and moving its HDMI cable from my TV to my laptop (which has an HDMI connector.) I tried this, and I can't get it to work.

It seems like some driver and s/w application is needed, but I can't figure out what.

Is this possible? If so, what do I need?

(My laptop is using Windows Vista now.)

(What I'm really after is a way to get jpeg snapshots from my home movies, which were recently converted to Blu-ray.)

Thanks,
- Dorsey

capture card or tv tuner with hdmi inputs.
i really dont think either one are available with hdmi inputs.
but
dare look and prove me wrong.

i was looking for high resolution capture cards a couple months ago and really couldnt find any that are high resolution.

capture card or tv tuner is the place to look for an answer.
unless you find the movie that was used for converting to blu-ray.

Thank you all, but I'm afraid I'm not up to dealing with the solutions. I'll just wait a few years until my wanted ability becomes default features on personal computers.

Laptops have been around for many years, they have not put a video-in on board yet. Not sure what the "few" more years will turn out to be. A desktop computer will have a much better chance of having a video in, in fact, most monitors you can just connect a video source to right now. If you are trying to get screen captures, just play it in a computer blue-ray player, and do it that way instead of buying a whole new laptop.
