Can Hitachi Travelstar Firmware be updated?

hi folks I am trying to repair a late model HP G4-1125dx that came with a hitachi travelstar 500mb 2.5 hdd. the drive is "failed" due to read errors according to HP's bios hdd test and to hitachi's own 'drive fitness' test. the drive surfaces check out great: chkdsk finds virtually nothing to squawk about.

I was hoping to find updated firmware for the drive and load that to see if it would correct the issue, but apparently no such thing for Hitachi hdd's?? is that correct or can one of you point me in the right direction?

If it's toast, it' s usually toast.

OEM drives would get firmware update from the laptop maker, HP in this case.

Hitachi has put out updates occasionally.
