Can I ask why non tech related political articles ever have unlocked comments? (or are even shared at all)

it got locked min or two ago. (ofc it did)

The article was not "tech" related. it had no reason to be on the site. it existed for sharing the potential reaction to a potential war.

It mentioned no tech. (just comments/actions of a tech company but thats not news any normal person needs to know about)
it had no discussion point thats allowed on the forums. (casue it was political)
it was obviously GOING to get political in comments. (becasue ofc it is as that was the point of that article)

Why did they bother making the article & why oh why did they even think of not locking comments before submitting it?

The admin that posts the articles is a bot. So It doesn't know what the topic of the thread is, its just posting what it was shown. As such it doesn't know which threads should be auto locked.

As for why they posted... I don't know. Mods have no control over what is posted, We just have to deal with the fallout :)

Chip manufacturers, US chip policy, and so on are absolutely relevant topics for news on the largest tech site on the internet. TSMC has a direct impact on your hardware, prices, and so on.

That the membership of this site is incapable of having a proper discussion about it, is not a reason to stop reporting relevant news to its membership.
