[SOLVED] Can I be sure my motherboard is broken? (and not my CPU)

Hi,

I've been putting together an old machine in my spare time with some old parts. I have a strange issue when sometimes it will turn on just fine. Other times nothing at all, no power whatsoever.

Flicking the PSU off and on sometimes fixes it, but it's 1 in 20 if it will turn on. Once one it seems to work just fine, I can install OS and reboot multiple times no problem. Then it won't work again.

Now I assume I have a hardware fault, and it seems to be the motherboard.

Every redundant component has been removed with no impact, and everything required component has been tested with an alternate, such as the PSU, I have tried 2.

Now, I don't have alternate CPU's or Motherboard's to test. I assume a CPU issue would not cause the type of problem I am seeing.

Can I be sure it is the motherboard? Replacements online seem pretty cheap so I don't mind spending a little get a full working computer.

Is there something I can check on the board itself? I've googled but this doesn't seem all that common.

Thanks,
Noki
