Can I change from a raid 0 to raid 5 setup down the line?

Currently I am setting up a virtualization server for myself in a raid 0 array because it will mostly be used for hosting a game server for my friends and I. In a few months, I will have another hard drive or two and I would like to change the array from a raid 0 to a raid 5 so i can still have good performance and some redundancy for files I will be moving over for storage on another VM. Is this possible? Or should I just get another hard drive now and set it up as a raid 5 from the start?

No you would not be able to upgrade or use the same drives as raid 0 if it is still active. Once you have built a Raid 0 you cannot mix match or change anything, absolutely nothing, even if you have another drive as part of a raid 0. Those 2 drives that are in your current Raid 0 will only work with those two drives, nothing else. As part of Raid 0 is to increase performance and storage, it was not meant for redundancy whatsoever, so even if you were to change a drive on your current Raid 0 it would not work. My best recommendation is reactive your current Raid 0 and get another drive and build Raid 5 since Raid 5 you need a min of 3 drives. Hope I helped
