Hey,
I've been watching a lot of youtube videos on upgrading laptop parts and I came across this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zmehOINmxUE

The person in the video upgraded from a pentium to i5 and then i7, but I believe they were all part of the same Gen.

I have a HP Notebook - 15-ay012dx (ENERGY STAR)
with a Intel Core i5-6200U Processor
(3M Cache, up to 2.80 GHz)

I wanted to know if I could upgrade it for a Intel Core i5-7Y54 Processor
(4M Cache, up to 3.20 GHz).

Other relevant info:
4 GBs RAM (planning on making it 8)
1 TB HD
Intel HD Graphics 520

Solution

Not even that.
Your current CPU is a BGA socket.
Ball Grid Array. Soldered onto the motherboard.

Ah, I see! Thx for the info! So I guess the only processor upgrade I can make to my laptop is changing it to a 6th gen i7?
