Question Can I connect a mono microphone wire to 2 motherboard pins (l & r)?

Apr 12, 2019
The mic jack on my old (2003) PC case has a single wire labelled "MIC DATA" coming out of it*. But my motherboard (Tomahawk B450) has a standard a HD audio header with separate pins for mic left and mic right. If I connect the wire to mic left it will work, but any audio I record will obviously have just the one channel. Is it safe for me to connect this wire to both pins in order to duplicate the signal on both channels? If so, what's the best way to do that (the wire terminates in a single standard female pin connector)?

Or maybe I should be looking for a "mono microphone" driver/BIOS/Windows 10 setting instead?

*There is no "MIC BIAS," so the case is either doing some sort of AC'97 lite, or something else altogether.
