I have a netgear router in mind to buy. I have a modem on the other side of my house and I wanted to know if i could connect the router to the modem wirelessly to have a better connection.

If you mean that you have a gateway (modem plus router) on the other end of the house, then the best way to achieve a better connection is to buy a router and two good powerline adapters (AV1200 MIMO) and attach the router configured as an AP to the gateway using the powerline adapters.

You are unlikely to get a useful connection trying a wireless bridge and many products do not work with other products if you attempt a wireless bridge using WDS. Two reasons: first the distant area already has a poor signal and second the standards for WDS are not consistent enough to guarantee compatibility.

HERE is a good site to help select a good set of powerline adapters.
