Can I connect an 8 pin CPU power cable to a 4 pin CPU power port on my motherboard?

My motherboard has a 4 pin (2x2) CPU power port, but my PSU has a 4x2 (8 pin) cable. Is there some sort of adapter I could use to plug my 8 pin power cord into my 4 pin port? If so, is it safe? I don't have an adapter in mind, so if someone could recommend one, that would be great.

The 8 pin power connector from your PSU should break in half so to speak into 2 x 4 pins to connect into the motherboard, but if it doesnt, only 1 side (either the 4 on the left or the 4 on the right) should plug in and work fine.

Make sure its the CPU cable you are using and not a PCI-e 8 pin cable, which is really meant for your graphics cards.

What do you mean break in half? Like physically pull it apart? I know it is the CPU one because on the side is stamped in white "CPU"

Pull physically in half like the picture above, into 2 x 4 pins connectors for boards that dont have the 8 pin connector.

the problem is that it doesn't come apart. It came as one unit. I didn't put two halves together, it came as an 8 pin. Should i try to pull it apart?

Mine has a very tiny little rail on it, you can barley see the rail, they slide out out each other, so one piece slides down whilst the other slides up, but you can try and separate them, dont use any brut force to breaking point, they should fairly easily come apart, otherwise, just use one side with the other side not plugged into anything.
