Can I connect an Xbox 360 wireless controller to an HP mouse&keyboard receiver on my pc instead of the mouse?

I've got a wireless Xbox 360 controller but no receiver for my PC. I do however have a receiver for HP mouse and keyboard but I'm using it only for the keyboard. I'm using Windows 7 and the receiver shows up as "USB Multimedia Cordless Kit" on the devices page. I tried updating the mouse drivers to include Xbox controller drivers but it doesn't seem to work. Is there a way to change the device type from mouse to controller?

Unfortunately, I believe the only Xbox controllers that work for PCs are the "wired" usb connection type. I have this controller connected to my pc.

Both Xbox360 and XBO controllers can be used wireless with a PC as long as you have the right (official) equipment.

Let me ask you a question: Do you think you can steer a train with a bicycle handle? No, they are completely different mechanisms (rail switch vs wheel rotation) and thus can't be directly used. You MUST buy the proper receiver for the xbox controller if you didn't get the wireless controller for windows kit (http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2)
