Can I connect my led strip to my 9 pin usb on mobo?

I wanted to know if I made a connector for the 5v/ground only on USB 9 pin header would it power my RGB light strip. Just wanted to keep the wiring to a minimum in my case.

Well, yes and no, depending on that LED strip. Most normal ones work on 12v and USB has only 5vdc. Does that RGB LED strip have 4 leads and works on 12v ?

It connects to USB 2.0 so I believe it's 5v. I think I'll just get a 9 pin header to USB A female adapter and call it a day.

Ah those are the ones with addressable RGB with normal USB-A plug ? That should work but needs software to control colors. Those USBs on MB are no different than ones behind the MB. You don't even need all 9 pins, only four in one row as they give one full channel. One extra pin in one row is not connected to anything.
